Jolly Roger Designs

Description

This is more or less like my old string of "Design Evolution" pictures, but simply call it "Designs" now for the sake of simplicity... and also to emphasize that this is a more updated and refined version of it. I personally think I've now made the layout for it more practical and appealing. More sophisticated now, if you will. :XD: LOL

I know I said a rather long time ago now when I posted Jolly Roger: [link] That I might do this. I didn't mean for it to take this long, but... I'm just happy to have it done and over with now either way. But yeah, he certainly has been through some interesting changes, huh? I'll briefly comment each one of them just in case it might interest you. :meow:

1: Drew him to be the most powerful pirate in a tabletop RPG of my own I made for some friends to play through. He also had a huge gun that almost looked like a canon, which he used to sink down ships with. I will still keep that idea for him one way or another. For it's time, the design is fine I suppose, and... well, it was the start of my now favorite pirate character. He's cross-eyed and his ears sticks out and lots of silly stuff, but... I was younger. XP

2: This was a strong redesign, which I did for him when I intended him to be the main villain for a comic of mine (where James Black: [link] was the main character... might draw his designs one day as well?). At this point, I made a story about him murdering Davy Jones and taking the Flying Dutchman for himself (yes, this was around the time I heard rumors about Davy Jones being the villain of the next pirate movie). I really feel now like I made him too big and weird, but... it was the second design - I didn't know completely how to make him fully work yet. Some of his details like his hair and hat where things I worked further on later, after all.

3: This was going to be for a vampire comic of mine I never even started on drawing. Despite being a vampire, I now actually gave some of his original traits back... though, I think I was overall being a bit too lazy with the design, looking back at it now. Not much else to say about it really. :P

4: Ah, so here we have the first one for when I intended to just keep him in general for things I could work on considering my world of fantasy and such things, you know? The sideburns are now starting to become significant and brought back from the second design, and I've now worked in the skull in the hat with the striped design I started on with the second design as well. Not a fan of how I drew the face, which is basically why I felt like redrawing him again. XP

5: I felt like I managed to perfect him back when I drew this one. But hey, even perfected designs at the time can be refined as time goes by. As a matter of fact... I think I made this version of him too attractive. :XD: I mean, he's supposed to be the ultimate danger of the seas - not the poster-boy of pirates. This is almost "Hey, what if I was Stephenie Meyers as a character designer?". A lot of things with him looks cool for me still, don't get me wrong. That's why I kept so much from it. But... yeah. Hell, almost looks like a pirate-version of Dante. :P LOL

6: And of course, I still think this design is perfect, and I am happy about it. He looks dark and disturbing and monstrous, which I love. :) I really don't know what there is to say about this design I've not already told, so... there you go. ^^;

Hope you like it, and feel free to comment.
